Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the cost of a 3D print?+

Add up the filament used (grams × price per kg), electricity (printer power × print time × price per kWh), plus any labor and packaging. PrintDesk3D does this automatically and suggests a selling price.

What margin should I add when pricing 3D prints?+

Most print shops add 50–200% on top of cost to cover failed prints, machine wear, design time and profit. The calculator shows suggested prices at 50%, 100% and 200% margin.

Does electricity make 3D printing expensive?+

Usually not — a typical FDM printer draws about 100–150 W, so energy is only a few cents per hour. Filament is almost always the dominant cost.
